Prairie Oaks Metro Park
August 13, 2022
How great is Prairie Oaks? And what a perfect way to end the second week of August with a long run and pancakes. Some photo’s below and a BIG THANK YOU to the our CC Parent Group for making the runners some breakfast.
Moon Shot
It’s time for some adventure and mystery. I’ve been speculating a moon shot effort at a 100 miles ultra marathon. I have 5 marathons under my belt but haven’t ran one since 2014:
Niagara Falls International Marathon - 2005
Boston Marathon - 2007
Chicago Marathon - 2007
Columbus Marathon - 2013
Columbus Marathon - 2014
So I’m a little rusty, not attempting a marathon in almost 8 years, and with just running with the CC team this summer this seems like a mad man’s idea. Maybe but why not? The big question is how to get ready for it, below is the plan:
4 Stacked Runs
A Stacked Run is 2 long runs with in 12 hours.
1 Stacked run every 2 weeks starting August 12-13 and going up till the Canal Corridor 100 (aka CC100) on Oct. 8th, 2022.
After each Stacked run evaluate the feasibility of a 100 miler.
How am I doing so far? I completed my first stacked run this weekend.
Stack 1
Goal: Friday night 20 miles at 8-9miunte mile pace.
Began work out at 6:52pm and finished at 10:19pm
Ave. Pace 9:01 per mile (some walking in the last 2 miles slowed this pace)
Ave. Heart Rate 142BPM
2390 Calories burned
Total Miles 19.85
Total Time 2:59:03
Goal: Saturday morning 10 miles at 8-9minute mile pace.
Began work out at 8:15am and finished at 9:40am
Ave. pace 8:20 per mile
Ave. Heart Rate 153PM
1251 Calories Burned
Total Miles 10.22
Total Time 1:25.10
Conclusion: I did not die and I was not in enough agony to think I can not complete another stack run…. don’t ask me about 100miler yet, please!!!. So in 2 weeks I will do it all over again.
The next stack:
August 27-28
Work out:
Saturday night 25 miles @ 8:40 pace
Sunday morning 15 miles @ 8:40pace
The next Moon Shot update will be it’s own separate article so be on the look out for that.
