THE PERFECT PAIR OF SHOES
When I started running, I ran into injury after injury. I also picked my shoes based completely on what they looked like and how lightweight they were. It's not a coincidence that I was constantly hurt during high school cross country. Stress fractures and IT Band injuries sidelined me again and again.
A few years later, my college coach pulled me aside at the start of my freshman year and gave me the best advice I'd gotten from a coach. He told me to go to a running store to get fitted for the perfect pair of shoes. I took that advice. In my case, I found out that I needed more support. A good stability shoe with a supportive orthotic made all the difference in the world. I started high school as an injury prone 27 minute 5k runner. I finished college as a confident 14:34 5k runner. The right shoes made that giant leap possible.
I opened the Columbus Running Company so that I could help others to find those perfect shoes for themselves too. The goal is to match a shoe type to your body type, foot type, and running goals. When we find that match, you're set for all of the training miles ahead of you. As you're looking for those shoes for your summer training and your season ahead, I recommend getting fit by an expert, trying on multiple shoes, and being picky. The synthetic materials of today's shoes just don't break in that much, so you want to find a pair that feels great right from day one.
If you have questions on the shoes, spikes, or anything else, our entire crew is happy to help. You can always reach out to us at info@columbusrunning.com or by stopping by a CRC. Good luck with the season!

Every Pair of Running Shoes = $10.00
For the fundraising, we're continuing the same retail setup that we've used for the past couple of years. Every time a team member purchases a training shoe on the team's account at CRC, we'll donate $10 to the program. The donation window is June 1 - August 31 for XC, and we run a second donation window in the winter for track donations. If a kid makes the purchase on their family's account, there's no way for us to track that for a team donation, so just remind the kids to make their purchase on that Fairbanks account.
