Let’s get right to it, The Book of Panthers is Back! This is our weekly team newsletter where we tell stories of our season and file them away in the archives of Panther Cross Country history. Every season I come up with a theme that I use to create writing prompts and story lines. Mostly, I find a song that I particularly like and then I try to expand from there with other songs by that particular artist. I then look at other artists that are closely connected to my first chosen artist. In the first season (2022) that particular song was “Ophelia” by The Band. The song was emblematic to the season of rapid change and new traditions. Season 1 wrapped up with Tom Petty’s “The Waiting” which signified the feeling that our CC teams were on the brink of some great accomplishments but it would have to wait 1 more year which led into Season 2’s theme song “Won’t back down”, by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Season 2 (2023) was a banner year for our girls team. In that season there was a mystery of how many athletes we would get on the start line at the state meet. The season concluded with Robert Plant singing “Babe, I’m going to leave you” and set in motion the theme of Season 3 (2024). Last years theme revolved around the idea of leading out or being led out, who’s leading and who’s following. Led Zepplin provided mysticism across a season that considered a multiverse of possibilities that upon final observation led to 2 teams qualifying for the Regional meet, a first in school history. The season ended with Led Zeppelin’s “Thank You”, leaving Season 4’s (2025) theme wide open. In a recent conversation with, now, Senior Elizabeth Phillippo the idea of themes for the season came as a shock as I was explaining that I had a vision for this upcoming season. With that in mind instead of leaving the theme up to you to discover I’m going to write it out for you. This years theme is The Greatest Hits: Cash in - Cash out. Over this season’s weekly newsletter I’m going dip back into the last 3 season stories and relay themes forward as a final compilation of our Senior Class with Johnny Cash as the lead artist for the season.
That was a lot of words to say, I’ve thought about this maybe a little to much considering the over quality of newslettering. In my defense, to my newslettering abilities I think I’ve made some improvements over the last 4 years. With that all said, Week 1 begins on Monday June 9 and so does my odyssey in attempting creativity over the next 22 weeks. I’m all in Cash included.
