Building Blocks
Since the beginning of the summer we have been running through different training blocks. The summer block leading up to August was all foundational base building, every week putting in miles one run and one block at a time. August was a meshing of foundational base blocks while moving into some racing. This is a tough block especially for first year runners that are getting use to the fact that people show up to practice and just run and call it fun. Again, it’s tough, just tough, just absolutely tough and I love it. We finished up the August block with a tough interval workout, those that blasted all the way through the work out looked tough and no doubt those that didn’t make it all the way through thought, this is tough! It takes time to build and be prepared for those tough blocks.
So what’s next? When looking at this season’s meet schedule and training blocks this next 2 weeks is what I would highlight as a fun block. We have 3 races that all have a unique fun feel to them. FARMBanks XC Invitational, Senior Night, Cow Chip Bingo, Chocolate Milk, right in our back yard, perfect. Tiffin Carnival is a classic fast course that always aligns well with a mid-season peak race. MSU Spartan Invitational and a 3 day weekend at Hamlin Lake next week! This is a training block that I circled back in the spring and wrote down the word FUN. For all of the tough running we’ve done to this point of the season the next 2 weeks have a specific focus to be fun. Let’s enjoy our fitness, race fast and have more fun than a Cross Country Athlete knew was humanly possible.
