We might not have been the fastest team last weekend but no team had as much fun as us! This season has been a long lead up to last weekend at Hamlin Lake. I can’t say enough about the coordination of parents, chaperones, the athletic department and coaches to make such a fun weekend possible for our Cross Country teams. With that said it’s time to reset and grind. We are less than 4 weeks away from the OHC Championships which means our fastest times of the season are yet to come. The training block for the next 2 weeks we are going to grind. The goal for last week was to have fun and we did, but what’s just as much fun as Hamlin Lake is seeing our personal and team running goals come to life.
Phillippo & The Badger
Grindstone 100k
The Burning River 100miler left its mark on me. I went down in a ball of flames at mile 66. We’ve all had clunker races, some of us might have felt that way about The Spartan race last Friday. It took all of 2 days after The Burning River for me to feel a sense of regret and a need to continue pursuing a goal to qualify for the Western State Endurance Run. So after talking it over with my Crew Chief, Emily, we decided that I’m fit enough to make 66 miles right now so how about a 100k (62miles) to qualify for WSER. The Grindstone 100k seemed to be a logical direction to go. The only big question mark is the 12,000ft of elevation gain over the course that runs through and around the Grindstone Mountain in Virginia. The Burning River may have been the hill that I died on but my goals did not. To the mountains!!
