New Realities
Time, distance, space, the universe, a multiverse, infinity, dreams, reality? For all of those that have come before us, 50 years ago, 100 years ago 2000 years ago, what does it all mean? Why are there little traces of evidence left behind, why are we stuck with this mystery? Why on earth did I start to run? Why do we dream? What is cross country? Where do we fit into any of it?
Under the lights inside Troy Memorial Stadium, on Saturday, watching runners circle the track it felt like the center of the universe or a multiverse, makes no difference. It was like a dream. It was fun! It was challenging! It also left evidence of some new realities.
Zeke now belongs in the 16 minute 5k reality. This might not seem like a huge deal but for me and my time as the head coach of this program Zeke is now the fastest runner I’ve ever coached. That title has been held by Sam Power for nearly 15 years. Zeke moves to #3 All-Time.
Ava Lahmers has passed Rachael Hoovers 2020 season best time moving her into the #5 All-Time spot. Another reality, Ava has now recorded the fastest time for a freshman in FHS CC program history.
There are many more new realities from the Troy Twilight Meet. Full new PR list below:
Ava Lahmers - 19:54.39 - #5 All-Time
Hannah Neihaus - 23:24.58 - #40 All-Time
Elizabeth Phillippo - 23:26.88 - #41 All-Time
Meredith Reinhard - 23:28.64 - #42 All-Time
Izzy Miller - 25:48.44 - #85 All-Time
Zeke Gingerich - 16:57.48 - #3 All-Time
Bryce Nisly - 19:02.75 - #38 All-Time
Noah Thorly - 19:05.82 - #41 All-Time
Elton Bailey - 19:28.51 - #52 All-Time
Brady Adams - 23:23.87
A quick side note about the Top 100 list. When the final list comes out at the end of the season there will be some statistical drift for all time rankings due to the dynamic nature of new athletes taking positions and adding numbers to the athletes lower on the list.
Intermission: 45-7-?
We have reached the half-way point of the cross country season. Even though we have been at this thing for 16 weeks this week is our intermission, our seasons mid-point break. A little reset of team goals:
Girls current composite time is 21:14.55. Last years final composite was 20:59.50 and the all time record composite is 2019’s State Qualifying team at 20:43.26. We should surpass 2022’s composite time next week. If we are going to overtake the 2019 team our Sophomore Pack will play the largest roll, especially our #5, 6, & 7 runners.
Boys current composite time is 18:50.23. Last years final composite was 18:40.97 and the all time record composite time is 18:16.17 by the 2013 squad led by Garret Leeds and “All Day” Cory K. The 2013 team got trapped in the central district during a 2 period when only the top 4 teams and 16 runners advanced on to regionals. That was the all time greatest team but sadly no one advanced to the regional meet. Garret Leeds ran a lifetime PR of 17:31.55 (#9 All-Time) at the district meet and finished 22nd. That season was over. For this season we are on pace to pass last years team, when we pass them we will start eyeing the 2013 squad.
This weekend will be run on your own. Get some rest and get ready for the second act of the season.
Week 16: Sept. 18 - Sept. 24
