Week 17 Recap: Mysteries….
It’s really hard to put last week into perspective. Tuesday’s Denny Stevens Invitational was really the big race of the week but it seemed so tiny compared to the mountain of moving pieces and thousands of runners we experienced in our journey to the Nike XC Town Twilight meet. It was the kind of week that Rachael Hoover can reset the school record and yet it doesn’t seem like the biggest moment in program history. The week was really the largest mystery of our season and it felt mysterious, it felt like we know we are really a good team but how good? The following is what we now know:
New District Composites
Weekly PR’s
Elton Bailey - 18:50.86

Hannah Neihaus - 23:03.87
Merrideth Reinhard - 23:26.60

Boys: 18:41.40 - Just behind the 20:22 team.
Refocus
This is been a special season no doubt. There has been a loose and fun nature to our team but also a great ability to refocus on weekly goals, work outs and races. For the most part from week to week and race to race we have seen consistent improvements and new PR’s, maybe not every race for every runner but consistently every week we can look back and find improvement.
This week is a chance to exhale for a moment. We have just 1 race, a little speed work and a solid work out on Thursday. We have a free weekend for home coming & 100 miler things! Goals are very simple, take some time to look back at our season to this point, look at our PR’s, get out and rip a 2 miler and relax. This time next week we will know our district seeding and we will have a conference meet to prepare for, it will be time to refocus!
100 Miler
I’ve been wanting to get some 100 miler updates out all season but it’s just been a little more busy this year. Now here it is, 100 miler week. I’ll just give you the quick goals update:
1 - 17:00 hours, be done by mid-night
2 - 19:00 hours, be done be 2am
3 - 22:00 hours, beat my current PR time of 22:42.00
I’ve thought about 3 different goals. It all depends on how the day unfolds. If I can get to the half way point between 6-7 hours the I’ll be in line for goal 1. If I’m at 8 hours then I will be tracking close to my time last year. If that is the case then it will depend on how much running I can do in the second half of the race verses the amount of hiking that is required to complete the effort. My largest limiting factor is going to be calories, I hope! I will drop a larger update on Friday with a few more details on the race.
