Rain or Shine
Week 2 Recap:
We didn’t dodge rain storms last week we ran right through them.
Tuesday’s run was made for ducks! Steady rain turned Ultimate frisbee into a slip and slide event. Team Phillippo notched the first Victory of the season.
Thursday was a bit more dramatic with possible thunderstorms looming in the distance. We managed it without any bolts of lighting or cracks of thunder. Elton Bailey was an unstoppable force on the Ultimate Frisbee field as Team Gingerich took the win for the evening.
Ultimate Score Board:
Phillippo: 1
Gingerich: 1
Momentum
Momentum is what all endurance athletes want to build. Momentum from day to day, week to week and workout to workout gaining pace, gaining strength, and feel stronger! Momentum is a vision of ourselves in the future and the thought of how fast can we get! We always want momentum to be seamless and easy but it’s not. Momentum is ultimately developed in the moment, did I get out and get my miles, did I get in my abs, did I…. It’s an enternal check list. A lot of times we have built some momentum but it gets challenging to maintain and that is in itself The Moment.
Week 3 in training is the first great challenge to Momentum. Over the last couple weeks of training we have been building weekly mileage and that building process is starting to get a little old and training can feel stale. The momentum building moment for this week is to stay on schedule with your mileage because week 4 will be a reduction in mileage and some much needed rest. Week 3’s have to be taken on with focus to grind through, make it to that week 4 down week and carry that momentum into week 5.
Cream
Prince is on fire in this performance, and this song is an example of Prince’s over the top self confidence, and is backed up by just how ridiculous Prince is as a musical artist. In the moment of his performance Prince plays the crowd like an instrument, and if the moment is not right he shuts it down and resets, he builds momentum out of each moment and shows he’s a performance master and a master of the moment.
The cream rises to the top is a simple analogy for the best always rise the same way a glass of raw milk separates and the cream rises to the top. In the song Cream, Prince is trying to talk himself up, and build his self confidence. Self confidence is a result of momentum too, building off of moments of success and moments of failure……building a little bit at a time, a mile at a time, a week at a time….. Being in the moment and understanding the moment, it’s week 3! Grind!!
If you haven’t started running yet this summer, get started, your week 3 is still waiting for you. If you are Mr. Training Log you might have already ran by your week 3 and didn’t even know it, that’s momentum!
July will soon be here and training will begin to pick up and then August. Do you feel the momentum building!?!?
Week 3: June 19 - 25
