Running is such a controversial subject, even runners seem to hate running sometimes. As proud members of Fairbanks XC Tim, Nicholas J, and Kayden each wrote a paragraph on our personal opinions towards running.
I believe that running is good for you and an enjoyable experience. CC (Cross Country) Helps your physical endurance, and is fun to participate in when you're in a group. Running in general is beneficial too; it keeps your body in shape, and can reduce the amount in which your metabolism crashes when you reach a certain age period. Furthermore, running in a group or team has the mental health benefits that running alone cannot provide. This is why I believe that running is beneficial and fun. -Tim
In my eyes running is more difficult mentally than physically. When I run and feel good physically it is always my mentality that slows me down. My consciousness constantly tells me that I am tired and need to stop. Running is such an enjoyable activity but overcoming the negative mentality seems to be my biggest obstacle. Cross Country seems to be such an underrated sport but so much effort goes into running, especially in races. The constant pressure of being watched and meeting certain goals. I have a lot of obstacles I need to overcome, but in the end I love cross country and the environment. -Kayden
I think that running is different. Sometimes it is hard and sometimes it’s fun. Think it depends on how I’m feeling that day and what we are doing. I find that easy runs are usually fun and hard runs are usually not but I know that I need to do them to be better. One of the great things about running is the other athletes whether they are from our team or another. It's fun hanging out with them and also meeting people from all over Ohio at the big meets and from multiple states at the Michigan meet. I think running is something with many mixed emotions. -Nicholas

Shepherding the U.S. to Farmbanks CC Invitational
By: Bryce Nisly and Riley Jones
Fairbanks High School is making national news for the first time. Local students on the cross country team wanted to make a difference after Covid’s spread and how it slowed down the school learning. With this being said, the students formulated a plan, and came up with the idea of having a national cross country meet.
The meet would include at least one school from each state, middle school and high school. All proceeds will go to a charity aiding schools. The types of races being held at Farmbanks National Invitational are 5 kilometer and 2 mile. They will be tough races with far-reaching competition, aches and pains, and a yearning to take the haystack trophy. Most times the Farmbanks CC Invitational competition is lacking, but this time the Fairbanks students want as many runners and schools to challenge them! The head coach of Fairbanks, Van Winkle, said, “Fairbanks is quite a small meet compared to Tiffin or Pickerington, so I talked to the runners and they wanted to have a bigger race. Therefore, I organized an event bigger than the school can handle. Because bigger is better.”
Once the schools and contestants are at the meet, there will be TruMoo® chocolate milk by the registration tent after each runner has run their race. Also, make sure to drink plenty because there is always an over abundance of chocolate milk! Additionally, food trucks will be around the parking lots to help fulfill people’s roaring appetites. Foods that can be expected there can be hotdogs, hamburgers, miniature pizzas, fries, tacos, burritos, pretzels, chips, and chili soup. As well as drinks to look forward to is lemonade, water, tea, gatorade, and soda. Finally, bathrooms are in the school if someone needs to drop a cow pie or leave some skunk spray. Well, look forward to seeing all the runners and parents at the meet that day!

Eliud Kipchoge Striving for Greatness
By: Cameron Nisly and Zeke Gingerich
The significance of the marathon and the difficulty of competing in one is a tough topic to illustrate. According to asics.com, the average time for a male runner in a marathon is 4 hours and 21 minutes while for a female runner it would be 4 hours and 42 minutes. Most people struggle to run around an hour without stopping unless they run regularly. Compared to elite level marathoners, which compete at less than 2 hours and 30 minutes per marathon, the average person can see the tremendous endurance and speed it takes to run a marathon. For a marathon runner like Eliud Kipchoge, he is faced with the 2022 Berlin Marathon and his own set of challenges.
Eliud Kipchoge already has a claim on the world record for men's marathon and 2 olympic gold medals. Not to mention that most people would consider him as the greatest marathoner of all time. But Kipchoge is not satisfied yet since he will be running the Berlin marathon this Sunday with the goal to break his own world record. The Berlin marathon is the same course that he has set the current world record on. The conditions are set with the temperature hanging in the low 50 degrees. Some experts think that because of the predicted conditions he may break the current world record and possibly even break the 2 hour barrier. During an interview Kipchoge when talking about the possibility of breaking his world record he said “I always say I don't call a world record, but I want to run a good race, be it a world record, a personal best.” Later in the interview he said, “I respect all the competitors - I treat myself as the best one.” Kipchoge seemingly is remaining confident in his racing abilities even with his age. Kipchoge still believes that he is currently the best marathoner in the world. In order to get the World record the kenyan has to defeat opponents first.
The Berlin marathon is the fastest course in the world and with that the best runners in the world will enter. Kipchoge will have to face the reigning champion Guye Adola. Guye Adola is relatively young for marathoning at the age of 31 and has run fast times on this course before. This course was Adola’s first course of his pro marathoning career and is very special to him. Adola said in an interview that his goal is to run a 2:03 hour marathon. If Adola does achieve that time Kipchoge will have to have a superb performance. Kipchoge has only run under the 2:03 mark twice. With these two runners bringing the showdown at the Berlin 2020 Marathon, there may be another chance to see another 2:03 marathon by either runners. Watch the Berlin Marathon this Sunday to find out if Kipchoge does indeed break 2:03 in the marathon and exceed his competitors.
The Runners Almanac:

The rest of the 22’ Cross Country Season looks like it will be cooling off. With a chilly run at Triad just behind us, along with the Fall Equinox, the Season should be getting chilly. All runners might want to prepare for their runs with quarter-length socks instead of the standard ankle length.
On the night of October 22nd, if you look into the North sky, anyone with a sharp eye will be able to catch Archimedes sporting his classic belt, but also a new pair of HOKA running shoes!
Be on the lookout for a particularly brutal Nor’easter this year. Based on the precipitation so far this year, all signs point to a ferocious winter storm all across the country. Best hang up the running shoes and lace on the skates!
With the chance for an early winter storm this year, the State meet may be a bit cold, even colder than last year. Get acclimated to running in sub-freezing temperatures, and cold dry air. The best way to start preparing early is to locate your nearest slaughterhouse and do laps around the pig hooks. But be careful not to go too fast and get caught on a hook, that would be a quick end to the season. Good luck and stay safe!Running 2149
